LIGHTNING BOLTS!!! Love this one. This was one of those covers where I kept having to tell people “It will be cool, I promise.” It didn’t get the lightning bolts until the coloring process, so it wasn’t really exciting until now!

C.O.G. Cover – The Rescue
Group shot! Another cover concept of C.O.G. This was surprisingly the most difficult to color because each character has their own color scheme and I needed to to unify it. This also features characters not appearing on other covers before: Mrs. Applegarth, Pruitt & oh so sexy Dr. Cavendish.
C.O.G. Cover – Golden Sparrows
At last! The first of my series of potential covers for C.O.G. This is the Golden Sparrows Cover. I features Delyth & Myles, with Myles being all mysterious, lol. I hand stained the paper texture used here and scanned them into the computer. At the moment, this is perhaps going to be the first cover in the series.
Covers – Pencils & Layouts #5
The cover pencils and layout for issue #5. This was the most simple but it was probably one of the most fun. It gave me the opportunity to draw a lot oc characters I haven’t been able to before now, like Pyott & Pruitt. The art nouveau frame was something I created on a whim while doing the pencils.
Covers – Pencils & Layouts #4
More Pencils with Layout, this time Issue #4. This had a lot of research behind it to get the clothing right. I had to walk a very fin line with the dress, as dresses at the time would probably be considered gaudy monstrosities today. I decided ultimately to be more accurate and went for all the details. Usually when I see victorian comics artist skimp on dress details. I wanted to highlight them. Myles’s formal kilt was easier but I’m still in the process of creating my own tartan for him.
Delyth Gwynne – Design Pin-Up
Delyth is a mysterious welsh maid connected somehow to Myles’s cousin Lord Sherwood. She seems to be in danger from an unknown group of occultist that want her for some reason. Sherwood, determined to keep her safe, asks Dr. Cavendish to hide Delyth in Myles neigh impregnable home “The Fortress.” There Delyth resumes her role as a maid once more. However, the Fortress is not an easy place and nor is its enigmatic master. It doesn’t help that that she only seems to add the chaos, as strange happening seem to follow her.
Delyth’s design is by far the easiest. She poped in my head and was realized on the page seamlessly. As Delyth is from a very low social caste, the dress you see her here is her Sunday best and only nice dress. The rest is mostly the plain black of a working maid.
Cast Inks
Today I show you the Pin-Ups fully inked. I did these images separately on A3 / 11 X 17 paper. They were hand penciled and hand inked. However, they were cleaned up on the computer. Generally I use a blue pencils (which i turned grey in the previous post for easy viewing) and then use various inking techniques to get the desired effect. For these drawings, I mostly used repidographs for my line work and I just a brush pen for the dark hair. I twas inked in white paper and the ink was black. I turned the ink brown and the paper beige on the computer for effect.
Added to this list is Eddie Youngblood. Eddie is one of the villains in the story and technically is NOT one of the major ones. However, I REALLY wanted to design him and went ahead and splurged myself one extra character just for the hell of it, lol!
Preliminary Character Designs 1 – Main Cast
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome back to C.O.G. Chronicles! Today we begin to display the initial designs for our Sequential Serial (or more mundanely known as a comic book graphic novel). Today the Chronicler would like to share her preliminary designs for the main cast of this tale. She calls these “color studies” and will be used as an initial guide for their designs. These are subject to change, as it’s early days yet; but it will give you an idea on initial look and names of the main cast.
